What causes people to know right from wrong, but still choose wrong? What causes crazy decisions that lack all logic and common sense, not to mention full of spiritual deception?
The answer is adherence to tradition, idols and emotions which maintain soul ties.
We should look at and consider what scripture say about idols and traditions.
Read 1John 5:18-21, we need to stay away from the things of Satan, v21 says “keep yourselves from idols…” So what are idols? Many think statues, physical figures, magic, etc. However, many things can be considered idols. Romans 1:18-22 speaks of the wrath of God against ungodliness and suppressors of the truth. Man has no excuse, never the less, it seems many have darkened hearts and thinking they are wise, when they are foolish.
The atmosphere is full of spirits, not only of God but of Satan. Our minds are bombarded with thoughts of good and bad, true and false. But, we can choose what to take hold of and cast down the strongholds and imaginations that come against the Word of God. Soul ties are related to traditions such as Jesus quoted Isaiah in Matthew 15:8-9. Many speak with their mouth, but not with their hearts. It is hypocrisy. Mark 7:6,7 – repeats this and goes on to say that men lay aside the commandments of God and hold to traditions of men… Further on in Mark7:13, Jesus says ‘making the Word of God of no effect’ through traditions handed down. Again, we see the warning repeated in Col 2:8 speaking of empty deceit, philosophy and traditions of men and the basic principles of the world. It seems that many are drawn into emotions of anger and obsessive behavior rather than be truly aware of how these actions go against the will and instruction of God. When I look at what is happening in our country, rather than standing up and speaking up, and storming the traditions and hypocrisy, there is a trend toward crying, screaming and protesting in the streets, attacking anyone who mentions the Word of God!
An example of soul ties that work through emotions, beliefs, opinions and conviction would be family beliefs or traditions – such as having certain traditions or ‘sacred cows’ relating to their belief system. Traditions and beliefs in families go through generations and actually even when people know they’re wrong, will cling to the traditions. Areas like this ignore the absolute truth of God’s Word and yield to partial truth. Scripture says God’s Word is truth!
God’s view: Romans 1:32 “Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” We should take time and reflect on the Word of God that says “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.”
This is a wonderful word that encourages.
